Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
The good news is that everything you are going through can be fixed. Lots of people here who have gone through something like this can offer suggestions.
The best I can say is that now would be a great time to get therapy. Perhaps focus on a plan that gets you to a place you want. Some observations I've made in my life:
Children do much better in an environment where there is not parental stress. They know things were wrong, but they can't figure it out. Let them know that none of it was their fault. But don't dwell on it, or they will think is is their fault.
Jobs can be soul draining, that is sort of the way that it is. But then there are always better jobs out there to be found.
Parenting classes can feel insulting, but if they are mandatory go and get the most out of them you can.
Family can be very forgiving, work on working it out!
Well, I'm sounding overly bubble gum now, so I'll stop.
Hugs for better times
Ah hell, I'll give you some advice anyway. lol
1) BREATHE ..... seriously, don't forget to Breathe. You will notice a Huge affect on how you Feel when you fill your lungs with air, and release it slowly, Deep into your belly, not just your diaphram. Do it regularly.
2) This is the Most important thing my therapist Ever told me through six years of therapy after My wife (also cheated and) left me. I said I just didn't know what to do next. She was a listener, and didn't Give Advice. I Pleaded with her, "Can't you Please just tell me what to do????"
She looked right at me and said, "Learn."
One more thing - do you know how to eat an elephant? One Bite at a Time. Keep telling yourself that.
Apparently, you have decided on a divorce .. and the goal is to gain one. That entails some changes in your life and some new responsibilities. As you climb those 'hills', keep your goal in mind and the reason for it. This requires that .. and if you want this, you must do that.
I am not saying it is or should be easy .. just to keep your goal and its rationale in mind. Hopefully it will give you strength to go the distance.
Make the journey .. the end of this one will be the beginning of another. We 'fix' bad things, .. and go on without them to better things.
I was married to a "jerk" for 20 years. Larry was an alcoholic, and he had 5 or 6 girlfriends on the side. I did not want a divorce. I actually loved him. He was my children's father. I forgave him and forgave him and forgave him. I loved him. I swallowed my pride over and over and over again. I allowed him to lie and cheat and I passively endured everything because I felt real sorry for myself. I had all the self-esteem of a gnat.
I never cried while I allowed him to treat me so badly. I made up for it though when I finally decided I had enough. I cried every damn day for a solid month--great big awful sobs. I finally did what my therapist suggested: I got myself a timer. I set it for 10 minutes. I needed to discipline myself about the excessive time when I sat around feeling sorry for myself and I did not accomplish anything.
