It doesn't end. I've been through a bunch. I have lost everyone. One at a time. I find myself sitting with a puppy I love very much. My soon to be exgirlfriend brought in as a rescue. She hasn't been home in months. I have every desire to do things when I get home. but I don't do much of anything. I have no energy to do them. Mostly I just want to lay with the pup and sleep. I take good care of him. I have a shaky claim to him. She left without paying the bills for months she was supposed to. In a week or so my gas and electric will be shut off. Her gas and electric. i pay the rent. But the bills are in her name. She, or I, owe thousands to the utilities now. She's running and leaving me holding the bag. She might come back to claim the pup.
I have no friends. they all just go away. I don't understand why. i have no desire anymore to figure it out. I love this pup.
If I end up moving, if I could ever afford to, would I be able to take the pup? will I have any claim to it to begin with?
I sat on the couch petting him. He looked up and I matter of factly stated that i would train him well, so if he found himself in a new home he would be loved.

Time to let the pup out, and take him up to bed for the night. work comes early.

Your ex deserves 'no quarter'. That means save your own butt and take the dog with you unless she has 'proof' of ownership.
Don't know if I got it right ... you are responsible for rent. It is current. She is responsible for gas and electric. Seems the solution there is to put gas and electric in your name. Guess it is not that simple for some reason.

If you are hopelessly in debt, ,, bankruptcy is the cure.
I think the biggest problem is you are sitting and waiting for the train wreck. I think you need to make a plan and execute the plan .. where you and the dog are getting by on your own.

That is so sweet how much you love your dog. It is so wonderful how pets can be a natural therapy.
a better paying job make you fell a lot better about your self help out on them bills.
