Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Moreover, self-compassion and self-care isn't always about taking a hot shower or binge-watching Netflix on a bad day. Self-compassion and self-care means to care about yourself as you would a close friend. For example, if your friend were in a toxic relationship, felt worthless, etc., would you yell at your friend, "I was right, and your dad was right--you'll never get a good guy. You're worthless and a piece of ***!"? Or would you let her flounder, scold her for not being smarter and getting out of the relationship? You wouldn't. You're human and your friend is human. If your friend deserves care and affection as a human being, then so do you. Self-care means to be understanding and kind to yourself, to know that you don't deserve s****y people, and to know when to stand firm and get yourself out of bad situations.
Your friends do bring up a good point--why *do* you want love from men so badly? Is it because of your dad's behavior? Or perhaps is there another reason? It's worth the time to think about why you want something, instead of blindly trying to get what you want.
