Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Usual disclaimer of jme and jmo, my depression is like any other medical condition. We are going to have good days and we are going to have truly crappy days.
It's akin to a "physical" health problem.
I'm also physically challenged (being politically correct by putting it that way :)
There's alot that I do to adjust my life for my handicaps/disabilities/etc.. It's the same way with my depression.
It stinks in many ways! I can set a goal in PT and celebrate meeting it. Some times I do not celebrate the same way when I've reached a goal concerning my depression.
My Bad...it's just as important.
Yeah, I think there are worse things than having a mental condition.

It's true...depression is rough man! This is the scariest thing I have dealt with in my life, and that includes trying to raise a bipolar son.
You seem to already have great coping skills.....but when the problem is in your head, yeah, that is really hard.
I tell everyone that giving up is not an option, so it's GREAT that you are here and asking for the support you need. There's a lot of love here.
There are so many things you can try when dealing with this! therapy. medication, positive thinking, meditation....relaxing teas and alternatives like herbal remedies.
Stick around and post as much as you need to.

But then think about mental illness. Some mental illness like autism is so much harder to figure out if you have it or don't have it. I guess depression is easier to figure out (you're either sad or you're not sad). But treatment is borderline EXPERIMENTAL. The approach some psychiatrists have is "Take this medicine, and if it don't work, we'll give you something else." I have had psychiatrists say that to me!!!! Can you imagine if someone had cancer and the doctor told them that??!!!??
& in the old days if someone was mentally ill, they would give them a frontal labotomy (cut out part of the brain!!). So we have come along ways treating mental illness, but we have a long way to go!!
