My doctor just took me off of the small dose of Remeron that I have been taking and prescribed me Imipramine 25 mg to start and then up to 50 mg. He said it would be cheaper for me and help me to sleep as well.

Has anyone had any experience with the med? I could use some help and opinions. Thanks so much!

imipramine is the generic name of Tofranil, a tricyclic antidepressant. It's been around for 50years or so. It is definitely more potent than Remeron. I took it years ago. 50mg is a small dose, you will probably go up to at least 100mg over time, but it's important to increase gradually with the doctor's orders.
Expect some side effects. I had dry mouth, constipation, and sun sensitivity. It will probably help you sleep.

Thanks for the reply. Even just starting at 25 mg, I am noticing that it is helping with my sleep. That is good.

So far, it's been making me kind of dizzy and light-headed. I also have a decreased appetite. I hope this will lessen as my body gets used to the new medication.

Your body should adjust. Be sure to tell your doc about the side effects, even if they go away before you see him again.
