I am considering shock therapy. I don't think Im ever going to find the right medication. I am feeling extra lousy today. I have heard it works pretty well for a lot of people. My mother had it over 500 times in the 50's & 60's, but it has change a lot. I am going to broach the subject with my psychiatrist at my next appointment.

I don't recommend ECT. Sometimes, it is very effective for people. However, it can have serious detrimental effects on cognition and memory. Have you looked into transcranial magnetic stimulation or TMS? It is a new, 100% safe treatment for depression.

IT TOOK 20+ YEARS 4 THE DRS 2 FIND THE DEPRESSION WAS CAUSED BY A BRAIN TUMOR.
MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE IT IS NOT A PHYSICAL PROBLEM.
U COULD DIE IF U HAVE A BRAIN TUMOR AND U GET ECT TREATMENT.
I KNOW SOMEONE WHO DIED BECAUSE THE DRS DIDNT DO AN MRI 1ST.
B CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!
I DONT KNOW HOW ECT WORKS.
GLAD I DIDNT CHOOSE THAT OPTION.
I WOULD B DEAD RIGHT NOW.

Here is some info on TMS treatments..I just found out today my insurance will cover it and am looking into TMS for myself. I will post the link..I just hope whatever you decide that more inner peace is found. I wish you the best..

I had about 20 ECT's and although they didn't work for me, they do work for a lot of people. And yes I do have memory loss from it

I have a best friend that had ECT and she was so sorry she had it. I had another friend I saw right after her ECT. It caused memory loss and she was like a veggie. She seemed full of pep to me before the ECT. Of course she said she thought it helped her, but she was numb and being a veggie is not having any feelings and i think it is pretty horrid. I hope you think this through. Have you tried MAOI's?

violetmist, my doctor told me MAOI's are the worst thing possible for me. That was a few years ago. What is the difference between MAOI"s & AD's? Thanks!
