Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've been in your shoes on and off for most of my adult life. When I'm in an extended period of depression, I liken it to being in a barrel. I'm down in this dark damp barrel and looking up and watching the world go by. I keep hoping that someone will look into my barrel and see me. I hope that they will stop and give me a hand to help me get out. However, no one does. So I have a choice, I can stay hidden in my dark safe place waiting for someone to help OR I can take the initiative to pull myself out. I found out that all I need is to stand up in my barrel and the warm sunshine fills my life and I have a total new prospective. I find when I take the effort to make the first move, then all these people that just passed by me while I was in my barrel now begin to notice me. That is when I realize that my depression is all about me and I can't see beyond me when I'm remain in my barrel. Outside of my barrel, people notice me and want to interact with me. Why? Because I now have something to offer them as well as be receptive to what they have to offer. To translate my meaning, what ever that safe place is that you go when the pain of depression and anxiety is too much, no one is going to go there to help. You have to start by helping yourself and then you will find those individuals willing to communicate. It is a hard thing to overcome the negativity, but that is one of the first steps. Make an effort to find something positive each day and reflect on that rather than focusing on the negative. Believe me your world will change for the better. It is up to you to move forward, not someone else. My warmest wishes for a brighter tomorrow. CL
