Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I had been feeling pretty good about the last week. Then my 21 year old son called, drunk again. I know he has no idea how upsetting & depressing it is. I know he struggles with depression too, but won't take his medication. I finally had to tell him "I can't talk to you when you've been drinking, it's too hard". He called back & apologized, but it doesn't mean a whole lot when he continues to do this. Am I a terrible mother? I love him & pray for him all the time. I feel so helpless...
This does not make you a bad parent.
Are you going to Al-Anon meetings? They can help family and friends of alcoholics focus on what they can do, and learn what they can not do.
Sadly being the parent of a drinker involves a lot of waiting for an 'opportunistic time' to come.
