A little about me, I'm the youngest of seven siblings and a background of pure dysfunction and toxicity. I've distanced myself from many of them due to their negativity and I talk to two blood relatives, which I only tolerate them for the sake of their kids and mines, and I have been doing okay but the past few days, depression and anxiety is boiling over. I work, I'm studying for a national exam, and I raise two children alone. My parents although very far from perfect, has been deceased for many years and I get so depressed when my children express how they wish I had parents or they wish they had more family. I can hide how I feel, but when they tell me how they feel, it gets very overwhelming. My kids are young and they see everyone with this extended family support and already my kindergartner knows that he's missing out on something great. It pisses me off that I was born into such a horrible family tree, I hate it, and there's nothing I can do about it. I have been unable to work the last few days as it's gotten me way down, I'm just trying to submerge myself into studying and catching up with work to keep from having a full blown panic attack. I'm so hard to not become this bitter woman, I'm only 29 and I just hate everything, I was never like this before.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

From my experience, as the kid doing the asking and the parent giving the answers, the best thing to do is to give them answers they can understand without telling lies. Do let them know that the full answer is hard to give and that they will understand it more as they get older.
In my family, we did not live very close to other family members so it was normal not to make contact with them very often. Except for the grandparents whom we visited once a year for 1 week each.
You can tell them that not all families get along, that it is not their fault. If they like different foods that don't go together you might be able to build on that. Tell them that your family and the others are like ketchup on cereal. It is not the fault of the cereal or the ketchup, they just don't go together very well.
Or what ever food pairing they would not like.
As they get older you can say that some family members were always negative to you, and that since they never said anything nice to you about things you did that you just stopped visiting them.
Or something entirely different, this is just how it would have worked in my family.
