Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
today is such a day.
if i can help in any way message me.
It took me decades to learn this:
Love begins with loving yourself. When people used to tell me that, I got angry. "Screw you .... of COURSE I love myself" was my position. I did not love myself ... I just did not hate myself.
OF COURSE the goal is to love and be loved ... but love is impossible to realize unless there is love for one's self to begin with.
Our culture does not teach us how to love ourselves. Our love FROM THE BEGINNING comes from the outside. Unfortunately, coming from the outside is not reliable as we get older. We find ourself where you are. 'Hey, .. were is all the love I need?"
BUT ... and I am SURE you can understand this ..... if we truly love ourself ... then there is NEVER any absence of love. We want more than that ... but self love is the 'seed' for all other love .. love we give (out) and love we receive (from out).
Your post shows it ... no happiness (no love) ... no confidence (no love for self), no thriving (no love), don't know how to get out of here (you can't ... until you begin to love yourself). Need to be and feel love/loved ... then love yourself first. EVERYTHING changes when you do. "Nobody does right now" ... you are right. You are living without love. "I HATE MYSELF" ..... that says it all.
Find a book on the subject . it will open doors for you ... your life will change beyond any expectation.
I hope you very soon feel better and the friends you make here and the love your share brings needed healing to your life as it has to mine.
((hugs))
But, I feel you. I never thought my life would be anywhere near as depressing. I'm pretty sure most people aren't where they thought they'd be. The struggles make us fully appreciate the value in what weDO have. Never forget what you DO have.
I'm very proud of you, already, for recognizing that you are not through yet. :-) There are many good accomplishments to come.
Hugs,
Scott xx
Thank you for reaching out to me and leaving me your words of encouragement; I really appreciate it. I think I do need to see a doctor about this... I am already on medication, and it *does* work for depression as well but it's not its primary purpose. The trouble with it is also that until I take it in the morning, it doesn't work! It doesn't have a lasting, continual effect like SSRI's and such.
I had not taken it yesterday, and I didn't manage to get to the kitchen until the afternoon...
I have a pretty active life when I am not feeling "low." I volunteer, go to school full time, and am looking for a part time job. I truly do struggle with relationships but I know that I have had friends before and it is possible to find a good group of friends again. I am definitely going to try my best to have a more involved/ better social life.
I don't know why I feel so incredibly low sometimes (like yesterday). Thanks again for all your support!
