Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My doctor did this genetic test, and found that, thanks to my DNA, I can never make myself enough serotonin if I eat a regular diet. My body needs help. When my body is starving for serotonin, it makes me feel all sorts of negative things, and I used to believe that was me. Of course, I had to find a doctor who would teach me to feed my body, not just give me a SSRI (though being on one temporarily served its purpose). It's always okay to doctor shop.
Give yourself the time to find out and heal. You wouldn't judge a diabetic for being tired. It's equally unfair to judge yourself for being down. Take care of yourself (and if there is anyone around you discouraging you from doing that -- come back and talk to us).
