Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
BTW, I was afraid this was a clandestine ad for a resort hotel!
Sorry you've been having such a rough time. It's good you've still got a sense of humor. I hear what you say about your living conditions; sounds like it would be hard for anyone. I am so blessed to be in a good place now, with a good man, but I've been in some pretty bad places and with some difficult people too. Whatever you're experiencing mentally/emotionally/spiritually probably isn't based entirely on your situation, but I think things will get much, much better for you once you can get out on your own or at least someplace where you feel more comfortable. I hope the program at St. Johns helps you to cope better until you can move. Maybe if you can get strong enough to take care of yourself and not lose your mind in your current living situation, you will be able to shine a light for the rest of your family to follow towards healing.
Try to forgive; people do the best they can and if they are mean-spirited, that really is the best they can do. I have a hard time myself with that one. It's easy to forgive someone who is self-aware and wants to learn and grow and have compassion, but much harder to forgive a person who goes on damaging themselves and the world around them without any remorse or inclination to change. But I don't think that people who hurt themselves and others are happy. I know the damage I've done to myself and others has caused me a lot of pain. I think forgiveness and compassion are key to happiness, because offering that to others allows us to give it to ourselves too. It can open a place in a constricted heart for joy to enter.
I am putting energy into good thoughts for you, strength and love, joy and truth and beauty, closeness to your creator. Trust in the goodness in you.
