Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I was taking Ritalin to treat my ADD and I noticed that it made me depressed. Then I got antidepressant from my psychiatrist and it made me very anxious. I stopped taking both. I could feel the difference within two days. And I will get stressed, unhappy and anxious once a month (coincides with high progesterone level) but is not the same as before.
Can you try without drugs?
You are writing about many physical and family problems. It could be very overwhelming. Maybe you can take day off, to not deal with these issues. You will get some distance and relax. It will be also easier to get back to these issues and deal with them one by one. If you write more about them you can also get some feedback here.
Good luck :-)
I think you have done the right thing by joining a group like this. talking out your problems with peolpe who understand and can relate to your issue's seems to help so much more than medication. Medication can only do so much, it can't make our lives better.
I hope things get better for you hun. If you ever need someone to chat with, look me up.
I would like to write more about everything here. I wish I could write everyday but I rarely get computer access. I have a phone that I can use to come to this site but when I try to leave a comment or message it won't let me type anything.
I live at home with my parents and brother. All of us have physical and mental health problems so we can't take care of ourselves on our own. We rely on each other and try to help each other out as much as possible.
In July my mom will be having a surgery in another city, and I'm terrified of being without her. My dad will be put in a home, and my brother and I will have to take care of each other. I'm so afraid I won't be able to handle this. I'm so debilitated and I love my mom SO much. Being without her makes me feel so lonely.
I hate feeling so dependent on my mother for company, friendship, and support. I know she can't help me with everything, and I know she tries to, but I want to be the one to help her. I want to be able to visit her a few times during her hospital stay, but I've never travelled to another city before, so this is going to be scary.
I thought that having people to take care of would force me to be strong but it's done the opposite. I want to be the strong one, not the pathetic, helpless one. I don't want to be a burden to my family.
How can I become a stronger person?
I've found the people in that chatroom to be very tolerant and accepting. It's incredibly easy to talk about issues there.
You are right about the symptoms you are feeling since side effects of Ritalin include nervousness, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, palpitations, headache, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, and psychosis and with the increase dose of it this could explain why you are feeling not as good.
I would not worry about your MD taking you of your meds. My opinion based on myself and the many person I heard and met here once you are on the meds, it is very hard to get off them. But, If you want off the meds make sure you work with your MD to taper you off them, going cold turkey will make more depress.
About your question others been in this type of situation I know at least one person, me.
To your other question, yes, I have Fibro, mom has Fibro, an aunt has Fibro and my brother has Fibro. Mom had cancer many of my relatives had died of cancer including my grandfather and grandmother. My sister has depression too and mom too. I'll stop here cause I could go on and on.
