No, but .. as you mention, there is medication for hypothyroid .. I take one tiny pill a day it is called levothyroxine

There may be some severe cases that need a specialist but hypothyroid is fairly common and has been treated with this med for decades. I thought it was something 'serious' until the Veterans Administration doctor said 'not if you take this tiny pill'. She is my VA primary care physician. I have the impression hypothyroid is no big deal unless untreated .. in most cases.
In my case, my severe depression definitely came long before the hypothyroidism, but, yes, my understanding is low thyroid can definitely cause depression.
I wonder why they can't get your thyroid under control? If it were me I'd ask the doc for a summary of how your bloodwork has been changing over time (probably your TSH continues to be high, if they keep increasing the dose?) Also, though it may be a hardship, going for a consult and maybe a follow-up with a specialist 3 hrs away might be worth it? Of course it may not help at all, but, again speaking for myself, I'd rather be disappointed than carry regrets. :)
