I was afraid of that. I have talked to him about his behavior and how it is negatively affecting our marriage. I mean even for someone without the PTSD issues that I have, that is bad for any marriage. He hasn't changed anything though. It makes me feel like I am not worth it to him. I don't know what to do. I have talked to him more than once for about a month or so. I asked him if we could both stop playing video games for a week, but he said "no, not possible". He's breaking my heart.

your best bet now is to seek counseling. if he wont go then you might be better off leaving him. he needs to be present in the marriage to make it work and video games are not needed in a marriage

My husband was addicted to playing croquet and would be away at a lot of tournaments. The players called me the croquet widow. I was soooo lonely. He wouldn't listen to me either. We are no longer together. I've been with a wonderful man for 21 years now. You don't deserve this. If won't go for counselling with you then you have a very difficult decision to make. You are still in the honeymoon stage. It's not going to get any better on its own. You deserve the love, attention and nurturing a good marriage brings. I remember those lonely years. Please don't let yourself be treated like that.

I hate to say it but it sounds like your husband doesn't understand what being married means. You both need counseling and if he won't go then go for yourself. At some point if he doesn't come around you'll have to decide if this the type of marriage you want to be in or if you want something better.

I pretty much agree with all the responses. Video game addiction is a clinically recognized addiction and is very complex.The first necessity to recovery is the addicted wanting to quit.

He probably had this addiction b4 the wedding ... and, I am sorry to say that if you did not know about it, you have grounds for divorce ... in my opinion.

You both would benefit from counseling .. each for different reasons.

You need to sit down and have a serious talk with him. It may only be six months but you want to start as you mean to go on.

I agree with it being an addiction for him. There is a group called "Al-Anon" for people who are family or friends with alcoholics. If there is a group like that for family or friends of video game addicts that might help.

I once tried to use standard logic with an alcoholic as to why it was bad for him to drink at work. It was a total failure. I suspect that trying to deal with his addiction may require methods that are not entirely obvious to us who are not addicted to video games.


BTW, I have an addictive personality when it comes to video games. My bottom-out was realizing that I was spending a lot of money on my lunch hour on video games. I finally kicked that habit before it got beyond a lunch hour thing. But I had to realize that it was bad before I would change.

Please get some professional help, a good plan on your part could save your marriage.

People are addicted to video games and the net. Did he show signs of this before you married him? I don't think you can change him but you can change the way you let it affect you. Al Anon is a wonderful support group. There are other groups too. You could also try a group for co dependency or seek help for your sexual therapy through counseling. In addition there are other support groups on DS that could help you in addition to this group. There is a group for sexual abuse, co dependency and others. Sorry, I wish I had a magic pill for you.
