Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

It's never easy to walk away from a cruel person, no matter your age.
Dealing with the disappointment is difficult. This person used to be your friend, you had the right to expect some things, such as respect, from them. Then, walking away means given up on receiving apologies, on hope of your friendship being reborn. There's no shame on having difficulties doing it.
What can help is focusing on other people who aren't cruel, because there are lots of people who aren't. Also, you don't have to feel guilty about letting go : this person brought it upon themselves, and they can't expect you to just accept how they treat you and to forget to take care of yourself.
It might be easier to walk away "slowly", distancing yourself more and more until you're not close enough to be called friends. This way, you avoid "confronting the person". However, it takes time, you're never really sure if the other person still sees you as a friend or not, and they never get what made you distance yourself. That's why I think a direct "confrontation" may be better.
I hope this helps a bit, and that it'll go well !
There is no walking away slowly. The confrontation happened and the bandaid was ripped off swiftly.
She had not followed through on plans multiple times apologized then did it all over again. I was tired of getting blown off or forgotten. When I called her on it she said "would you want to have lunch with you?" Man. That hurt. I also got the "the world revolves around you" or "it's all about you" when I point these things out. Two people have done this in the past month. Either everyone I know is shitty or I'm a selfish asshole.
Two people saying you're selfish doesn't mean you are. To be honest, people tend to throw that "insult" whenever they're asked to justify themselves or to forget about themselves a little (everyone's a bit self-absorbed). It doesn't really mean much, most of the time.
I think that, if you truly were a selfish asshole, you wouldn't have any problem walking away from a friendship that's not good for you.
I encourage those of you who responded here saying you have experienced this to honor your boundaries.
I put up with less than I did in the past. My friend pool is shrinking now. It's quality over quantity. Why would I hang out with someone who has such an openly low opinion of me? Beyond me why they ever had anything to do with me. If I don't connect with or don't respect or like someone I do not choose to be around them. Seems kind of logical!?
being mean doesn't mean you are strong but foolish.....someday that action will be regretted.
I don't think they give a shit quite frankly. Anyway...a few days have gone by now and I'm fine. My anxiety etc means I ruminate about this and other things (I have a repertoire) but I'm not weeping about it anymore. Thanks for taking the time to chime in.
