I've had family from out of town for the past week. While I love them very much I don't think they realize how bad my depression/anxiety is.
For example in my journal I mentioned my big purge. I tried to clean my house before they came. Then I came down with this darn flu . my living room and kitchen were clean . because I was sick I didn't get the rest of the house cleaned . the depression alone overwhelms me so much that I have a hard time keeping up the house.

Of course they didn't know how bad it was before they came. They just noticed how some areas were and commented on it. This really hurt. I know they didn't mean it to hurt.

Those who don't suffer depression just don't get it.

I am just hurt!!!

I understand how hard it is to function when you have the flu or the depression takes a really bad hold on you. I am sorry that your family isnt more understanding about it but maybe if they are that concerned about it then they should at least offer to help you out when you have the flu. Thanks charlie and pepper. I appreciate your comments. I feel a lot better today so I'm not as sensitive. Having depression has made me a lot more compassionate towards others. I'm also learning self care as I took care of my parents before they passed away. Life sure is a journey

Letschat I understand all about weight gain with the meds I'm on. I went to my former boss's memorial and a former co worker asked me if I was pregnant. Well I'm well beyond my getting pregnant years. I was hurt by that insensitive comment. I had pretty severe postpartum depression when I had my daughter 18 years ago. I was 4 months shyof being 40. I'm glad your love for your grandfather and aunt helped the hurt by your understanding them.

Even though they were there for you earlier, it may be good for all of you to simply tell them that yo are aware of your weight issue, and that their comments were not very helpful.

You worked so hard. I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes people speak without thinking..they just don't know what we are going thru.

I think you are great for doing the kitchen and living room and not cancelling when u came down w the flu.

Yeah it does hurt. There's not much we can do to get them to understand. We can offer information for them but it isn't always good enough. They dont mean to hurt us like you said but they could try to understand and still be supportive I think. Have a better day and give yourself some credit. You tried and did do your best!!!

I had someone tell me once, "come in, the house is a mess, if you do no not like it you can go home. I thought that was so funny and so true. I use it often now. lol

Thanks elana. I appreciate your support. You are a good friend. Solitude thanks I am feeling better and you're right. I did do my best. . zazas I love that comment. After all I visit people not their homes.
