I had to make drastic changes. Once I had to file for bankruptcy, I had to move to another city to find work. I had to do work in things I never did. I ended up teaching at a school that a year later closed due to misappropriation of funds. I looked for work in the non-profit sector and ended preferring being homeless than doing that again.
So far I've always found something, but it has required making big changes. I wish i could give you better hope, other than yes, there are solutions out there, but yes, tings can get bad to bad. That has been my experience, but I have managed.

Since that isn't realistic, we all need money, and short of winning the lottery, generating money takes hard work, I'd say the choice is not to retire from life, but find one thing IN life that you love doing, obsessively so, enough that you'd do it for free. Then look for a place in the marketplace where doing that one thing is highly financially rewarded. Then, when you have to work hard at that thing, do a lot of that thing, which doing a lot of that thing is required to generate enough money to live on, your passion for doing the thing engulfs you and doing the thing is as natural as breathing. I enjoy filming and taking pictures. I've found a niche in the wedding business. I could shoot 7 days a week and am trying to branch out into other types of video and photography so I can. Will make a lot more money if I'm shooting 7 days a week.
