Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
how they work and how they tick - that's normal. And when they tell you to do a thing they're really showing you what a normal person would be coping with and how they would handle it.
And one day, when you are through this, you too will react to things the way they do. They're not wrong; they're just coming at you from a different location, and they're trying to help.
But you, you're in the invisible maze that they can't see. So what you need to do may be a bit different to what they recommend.
I think counselling is a really great place to start - was enormously beneficial for me, and helped me through the process. I also found the right medication helped too - but have not taken it for a long time, just a few years. Long enough for me to learn how normies think and how they operate.
It is a wonderful thing to discover. They are functioning properly. They are functioning properly, and we are not. But if we can get ourselves recalibrated, then we too will be able to be happy.
I seldom get the kind of "support" I might want, but the kind of support I am supposed to have can still be found in the willingness of others to help me endure and move along within yet another day.
"...normies...just coming at you from a different location, and they're trying to help."
How other people try to be helpful can vary greatly from one to the next, and I think it does take someone who is more-aware and better-informed than most to be helpful to us...but I also think we are the ones who do the best when we are the most-aware and best-informed of all.
