Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It is sad and frustrating that doctors and diagnoses had caused this. I hear her complain about so much and there are many things in life to be grateful for but for mom, it is not enough. Because of her sadness, she had lost so much weight, most of the time she won't eat and because of that, she had lost a lot of weight. I had asked other people do they know anything about diverticulum. My mom was told and it was indicated that she is going to die. I or anyone else can convince my mom that she is NOT going to die, most doctors have no idea of when it is going to happen.
Perhaps the best thing is to take your Mom to be a colorectal/ gastroenterologist, and ask the doctors to refer your Mom to a hospital dietician. If your Mom is unable to absorb nutrients through the guts, the nutrients intake has to bypass the gut, so having parenteral nutrition (intravenously) may be an option for your Mom whilst her gut is inflamed.
When her diverticulum recovers to baseline (inflammation reduced) then the intestine can absorb nutrients, which means that the parenteral nutrition will be weaned off whilst her oral food intake increases. Contact the hospital if they can organise parenteral nutrition, and whether the nurses can come to your home to administer the parenteral nutrition, or whether your Mom needs to stay in hospital for the parenteral feed (unlikely due to COVID.) Hope that your Mom will recover soon.
Can I ask, does stress help increase this problem? the reason I am asking is that when my mom was not under stress, she did not have any problems with her stomach. At this moment she is depressed over the fact that she does not think that she is being treated fairly by doctors at the hospital. The worse part about this is that she will lose her appetite when she is under stress. I don't know what to do. I don't think moving to another location will help because I am afraid that if she goes under stress. I am not making excuses or anything, I am talking reality here.
I just lost my dad and now my mom is going through what she is going through? I do have faith that she will pull out of this, she had lost weight before but gained it back. My mom is not a big person, she had been small most of her life and she was a small baby. When I prepare food for my mom, I will grind her food so she can eat it, in fact, I am told that is the correct way to prepare her food.
Bobby if my mom was not under a lot of stress, her stomach would not go through that and she will gain her weight back? When my mom went to the doctor who specializes in swallowing tests, he did not have a problem that my mom wanted to see a dietician. Anything is possible.
