Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It doesn't mean he's in crisis but seems in stress as everyone deals with at some point in their life. Young people don't always see that life is between the black and white of their thinking and we are often in limbo and just have to learn to deal with that limbo until things stabilize. Things are almost never actually one way or the other decisively, we are just in the habit of thinking in terms of good vs. bad, best vs. worst, etc. when in reality the whole world falls in between there. Age straightens us up and he doesn't have those decades of experience to get him to not throwing up in the area of uncertainty.
When I was in my deepest depression a friend of mine and I worked out a 'secret phrase' to let him know I was very depressed or having a panic attack. So when I would call in a panic or severely depressed he would talk me through it for about 5 mins until the worse subsided. We would talk about the weather, the trees, and other non work things It really helped. I learned to talk myself through most of the crisis modes until i was able to get back to work.
As an employer you can set you own boundries on work place performance. Such as working on communication skills. Today's employer's sometimes forget that part of their job is to train their good employees to become better employees. A lot of times we think that they will just grow into better people on their own.
Also remember , that YOU are not responsible for someone ELSE. If you need him and your company can afford him and the issues that he comes with are acceptable, make a business decision.
Bottom line: Is he a good employee ?
