Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

One of the unfortunate things about depression is that the condition itself makes people not have the will and energy to get out of it, makes sufferers push away those who are close to them.
I think that spending time away from social contact is not good for people with depression, even if that's what they say they want. (That's a vicious cycle of depression.) The metaphor of "battling your demons" misrepresents the challenge, I think. It's not as if there is something that you can directly confront and defeat. Instead, you have change your life habits and patterns of thought. When you make these changes, it's not as if you defeat demons, it's more like you realize that those demons were not real and that there was no fight to be fought.
Overcoming depression is a long, hard process that often involves setbacks, and it can remain a lifelong challenge, but having close relationships helps a lot, even though that is hard for depressed people to accept.
Good luck, and please let us know how things go.
