Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
One thing that helps me is to focus on good things about myself or what I have going for me no matter how big or small without comparing myself to friends and family and other people because when it comes down to it, everyone has problems in some way or another.
Depression makes me think I am so much worse than everyone else and makes me focus on all that's wrong with me and my situation. It prevents me from seeing anything good. It's awful really.
Your post hit home with me...because how can one be happy for someone else if they aren't happy with themselves? So maybe that's the first step...finding some ways to be happy inside by building myself up.
It's just hard because everyone around me is getting into competitive universities, doing good stuff and making like 100k+ a year and I have honors but I still don't make it into any university.
I am going to school and I have two Jobs and like sometimes I just don't know what to think. I barely have anything to make it through the day or to pay bills. I just feel so hungry, tired and sad each day.
Everyday I just come home so tired and I feel so sad.
I'm 23 right now and I have been in so many crappy relationships because i'm always like bipolar or something. Like the first date I go on with a girl, I try to be perfect and do everything right. Then when I open up to them and just tell them about my experiences in the military going overseas and just all the jobs and school problems I deal with, it's like they want to really help but I am just so messed up that it is hard.
So I just end up alone all the time and I just wish people understood that. It's like you are so poor that everyday you have to just sell out a little part of yourself.
You know, I just think it's more social anxiety than anything. Because there is so much income inequality in America, like the richest 10% of Americans have about 72% of the household wealth and the bottom 50% only have about 2%.
Although that is from Wikipedia so you know, like that is not college scholar or whatever.
Anyways standards of living here are still way better than other countries but sometimes it really feels like I just get scraps thrown to me. What I mean is that if our country did not have so many abundant resources and economy, I honestly feel like i'd be living in a cardboard box.
But for me it is all just about psychologial and just competing against myself and not others and trying to do my best each day. Don't worry about other people, especially vain people, I mean I try to be happy for my friends.
