Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
untill just very recently, i was one of the 3 full time caregivers for my mom (my dad and my brother being the others)... and my weakness was a huge burden for me in that regard... and now that shes passed, the depression and anxioty and the nerve damage are all teaming up against me to keep me from getting work i can do
but i try to keep in mind that others in the house have their problems too... and so do the neighbors, and everyone else
while our pains are all unique (one persons toothache is different from another's), i think that we are all right on the edge of what we can take
maybe this person can take being stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of their life while the rest of their body hurts constantly, and that person crumbles under the weight of a sliver in their finger... i think both are at the very same place, perched on the precipace of what they can take... give either of them the slightest bump and they'll fall in
i recently saw a commercial for hair replacement and a guy says "80% of feeling good is looking good!" and i wanted to jump through the screen and show him what feeling bad is all about!!! cause obviously he has NO idea if he thinks a bit of hair on his head matters in the slightest (this is coming from a balding man)
but then i realized (number one, hes reading a poorly written script, but lets pretend he wasnt), even if his well being is THAT tied to his looks... hes still sitting on the same precipace we all are... and i bet if you shaved his head in a way that his hair couldnt grow back, it would send him off of his perch, and into the abyss
i think the secret to happiness is how we react to that precipace in front of us... do we cower away from it in fear? or do we peek over the edge to see whats down below to land on? or do we bust out a hang glider and launch off the precipace and fly around?
i dont have any advice for how to react better to the looming abyss each of us faces every day... but hopefully the therapy i just signed up for will help me to figure that out... and then maybe i can give a better response
but just keep in mind... even if everyone around you is going through things that seem trivial to you and i, they're still facing that same doom in front of them that we are... and in that, maybe we can all get a sense of empathy... which is a connection more and more people forget to make every day
ok im just rambling now... i hope there was something in this post that helps you
*hugs*
you are not alone!
I think you're right about everyone feeling that they are facing the hardest thing possible, but it can be hard to remember that when others seem to have it so much better.
By the way, I know exactly what commercial you mean and it drove me nuts too!
