Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I'm new to this website, so please ignore that I have no idea what I'm doing yet. I'm at work today, and it's very hard to not break down crying, I work with family so it makes it that much worse and harder. I have to force myself to seem okay in front of them. They know I struggle with anxiety and depression, but I don't really like to show that side of me to them. It's so hard to get out of bed every day because of my depression. It's so hard to find joys in life anymore things used to be beautiful to me. Nature, art (because I'm an artist), music and dancing. I find it so hard to enjoy any of those anymore. I feel like I'm a burden most of the time.. I feel alone. I have friends to talk to but it's just the same thing every time "you need to think positively, it's all in your head, you gotta take better care of your mental health" but they never truly understand. So it makes it harder to feel better when they hardly u understand what you are feeling. I struggle with insecurities that make me feel like I'll never be good enough. For love, or success. I need help, I need someone to talk to who feels the same.

or your doctor? If your depression is from chemical imbalance you need meds to improve
the situation.
Depression is in your brain/body. Your physical self. We feel sluggish, sleeping 14 hours a day is easy, we find no joy in things because our ability to feel it is compromised. Not in a "cheer up, things will get better" way, but in a "my right arm is broken and cannot move" way. The part of your brain that lets you feel good is in a brown-out.
The mind of the other hand is more abstract. Its job is to orient us (among other things) in the physical world. It is what helps us determine friend from foe, left from right, past from future. It interprets events and from those interpretations we make decisions about what to do next. In our case, it senses the depression in our body and for whatever reason interprets it as "doom and gloom". This is what other see and hear when they interact with us. And we, without understanding it, know that it isn't our attitude that is causing the problem
Got a 'good' evaluation and diagnosis. Got on medication(s) and took 'em as prescribed. Then ... I got immensely busy. I am retired now, but am busier than I ever was before. I inherited a pet ... who gives me more happiness than I can describe. Being so busy, I (finally) came out of it,
That is all I have for you. I think there is a relatively small percentage of people who are resistant to antidepressants, .. but that is ... again ... relatively small.
You say you have 'tried' 'em ... which tells me you have been to a doctor for the condition. Well, .. if meds are not helping, inform your doctor. Prescribing them is an art form, ... and I say the odds are you can be helped with them. You must have a doctor who takes your mental disposition seriously though. I fear many do not when I comes to this.
You are young ... I don't want you spending as long as I did to break out of this. Keep VERY busy ... don't care what it is ... work, volunteer somewhere ... keep busy for a good 12 hours a day or more, take the medications, .. rest, be busy, rest ... don't give yourself time to be depressed.
I don't know what other treatment you have had ... but a thorough physical often discovers easily correctable conditions that enhance or even cause depression. Hope you have had a good general physical evaluation lately.
That is all I have. I will tell you that you WILL be in my thoughts, and I am ONE (at least) who understands and care about you. So do all who attend this part of DS. You are not alone.
Welcome to the group! We are glad you are here and openly and honestly sharing some of your thoughts. This is a place where you will find love, encouragement and support from likeminded people who are going through similar struggles.
You’re not alone. I think you already sensed that from seeing the comments above. Many of us have gone through and it’s not simple as, “Go back home, take a pill and give me a call in the morning” if it was that easy, then people wouldn’t struggle with it. Taking anti-depression pills takes awhile till you find the right one and it has a lot of side effects and that can be very frustrating as well.
I hear your struggle and frustration. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Actually, I feel like I’m going through that even this very moment. Feel free to message me. Love to talk more.
Praying for you.
