Hearing loss?

Strange question...Not related to depression...Or possibly. I'm not sure.

Anyway lately I have noticed when I answer a phone I can't hear anything from my left ear. I can tell someone is speaking, but it's all muzzled. When I put the phone up to me right ear, I hear fine. I called my doc and told the nurse. I wasn't sure how to go about getting a hearing test. Without even scheduling a appointment she told me not to worry about it O.o

So how do I schedule a hearing test by myself without a the help of my doctor giving me a referral? Will this do anything screwy to my insurance? And has anyone ever noticed any hearing loss symptoms after taking a anti depressant?

Do you have a cold? If so, could be fluid build-up.

I'm not sure how your insurance works, so no idea about the referral. You primary doc should be able to give screenings in office (my kids did) so maybe ask for an appointment to see if you have an ear infection, and if there is no fluid, ask for a hearing test.

I agree with freccles. Ask to be checked for an ear infection. That way the dr. will look inside your ear. My granddaughter somehow got a tiny stone stuck in her ear and it was there for 4 months before my stepdaughter took her into to have her hearing checked. They removed the stone and her hearing went back to normal.

I think that the nurse was remiss in telling you not to worry about it. If I had that symptom, I'd make an appointment with the doctor and discuss it with him or her and have it checked out.
If the doctor doesn't find anything wrong, I'd discuss what to do next. Probably see an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor)
You might have an inner ear infection. You can have one and not know it.

Not after taking an antidepressant but I have a whack of experience with hearing loss starting with the loss in one ear at the age of 37. It was sudden onset. Please don't treat this as a minor issue, have your doctor make an appointment with an Ear,Nose, and Throat specialist asap.

Ok thank you...I think my plan is to just make a appointment saying I have a ear infection... Thank you everyone for your time in answering my post =)

Same thing happened to me and I found there was loss in certain frequencies in that ear. No idea how it happened. Well, I Was married for 10 years once .... sorry!! No, I really do have the loss.

I have hearing loss and lack of smell. I don't know if it is the medicine doing it or not.
