When I moved to Maine 3 years ago, I was happy about it. I was finally going to follow my dream of having a tiny craft shop in a rural community and doing things I love.
Change of plans 6 months after, I found out that my grandaughter was going up for adoption, and had to step in and adopt her.
Ever since that, things have been bad. Really bad. The store never took off because of a really bad location and an equally bad owner (me). I've really screwed it up.
Things decended rapidly after that. I have looked for a job for 3 years, and there is no job which will support me within 100 miles of me. I've had only 2 actual interviews, 1 that went very well and 1 not so much, in all this time for all the applications I've filled out.
I had to apply for Food Stamps, and then TANF in order to survive, yet I am still thousands of dollars a year sliding into bankruptsy.
A few weeks ago I found a job at the Dollar Tree, which is part time and pays minimum wage. As soon as I found out that I was going to be hired, I called my social worker and let her know. My first week was 19.5 hours, the second 15.5. I got my first paycheck last Friday.
Before I even got a paycheck, I found out that I was dropped from TANF. That is not the way it is supposed to work, but they just dropped me, based upon the hours I worked the first week.
Saturday, I found out that they also dropped me off Food Stamps and that my standard hours are going to be 10 hours per week. That's about $50 per week.
Because of a $50 per week job, I've lost over $600 a month in benefits. Without those benefits, I'll be bankrupt by Spring.
I can't think. I can't sleep. I can't eat. I can't stop crying. I'm going to have to go that over 100 miles and start applying/interviewing for jobs that far away in order to find a way to support myself. I'm probably going to loose my house.
Even selling theh house is not an option, because the place isn't in good shape and the market is dry. I am desperate.

As for doctors, it is very difficult to find a doctor in the states that doesn't automatically whip out their prescription pad to find a chemical answer to the problem, and my system doesn't react well to chemicals. I've finally found one who is more able to listen to me and help me find a solution that doesn't involve becoming addicted to something that is going to make me even more non-functional, but I really need a counselor, and the only one I've tried up here was so bad that if I didn't stop seeing her I'd have had to be committed before much longer.
Of course your house is up for sale...well listed all over the place of course. My god you have an asset. Rent it out.
