Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
IMO if he is over 21 and not IN college or university in the town you live in there is no excuse for him to still be living with you. That's ridiculous...
Maybe it's time to put your foot down and straight up kick him out or start charging rent at the very least.
This is precisely the problem with "grown ups" who don't leave home, the way I see it anyways. They grow accustomed to Mom/Dad taking care of all their needs and it gets to the point where it is simply expected - as if they somehow deserve it by virtue of merely being alive. Parents with grown up children need to put their damn foot down and force their kids to grow up... it's the only way.
You say he has no where to go - but ya know what? You kick his arse out and he'll FIND somewhere to go... and he'll begin to recognize how easy you have made his life.... and eventually he'll thank you for the tough love.
It's hard to make it on your own as a young person today, and most of us do need a little help from the folks (we are facing far higher education, health, security, transportation and living costs than our parents' generation ever had to - obviously that needs to be considered by parents of people my age. But it doesn't justify hand outs and it doesn't justify not even trying to make it on your own... all it means is that it is OK for us to ask for help sometimes.... but it isn't OK to take advantage.
I just asked my parents to loan me the $ to buy a car - and I genuinely appreciate that. If, however, my parents let me free load off them all the time and my life was easy street, I wouldn't appreciate it... I would expect it.
I guess all I am saying is you have a 'big' issue to manage .. and it won't be pretty .. so be wise, be careful, and think it out very well. Good luck to you. Changes MUST take place.
