ok if u match 7/10 of the symptoms for something do u have it, could u have it? im not trying to self diagnos myself or anything like that but i was reading about Borderline Personality disorder and i matched 7/10 symptoms...i told my skool counselor and she like blew me off on it and was like stop trying to diagnos urself...i also read that if someone suffered from PTSD a long time without getting treatment they can develope BPD and i've had PTSD for like 5 year before i got dianosed...help? any advice?

Doing that can be tricky... I've done it myself. You could suggest it to a psychologist/psychiatrist, but I wouldn't trust a counselor with the diagnosis (sorry if there are any counselors reading this!). It's a pretty big one and takes a while to be sure.

I was diagnosed with BPD after an extensive testing with a psychiatrist. I would definitely read up on it if you think you have it. There are websites dedicated to it, but I don't know how to post the links.

Anybody can suffer from PTSD and most people do infact suffer from it at some point, BPD and other symptoms are only things that can stem from the incident that caused the deep stress that happened...

So... yes and no....

PTSD in itself cant cause anything, but the reasons behind getting PTSD can afftect us sometimes stronger in the future than it does directly after whatever great stress has happened.

if you match symptoms from the DSM-IV, you will probably find that you have symptoms of A LOT of disorders, but that doesn't mean you have them. Being on sites like that can drive a worried person crazy. Heck, i've done it myself. If you feel like something is wrong, get yourself an appointment, tell them your symptoms, but DO NOT mention specific disorders. Let them be the ones to decide if you have a disorder.

I took a psychology class a long time ago. The book warned about self diagnosis; the author said that a lot of people will see themselves in many of the conditions they read about.

I agree with the rest here; the more severe the disorder, the more important it is to get a professional in on it!
