Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'll add a few more: Dodge, then burn. When life throws a curve ball, focus mental energy on the next, new, positive thing you want to produce or create.
Aggressively focusing the mind on the positive forges a kind of zen, that can shrug problems off and keep working on something. Focus on and chase the light, not the dark.
I agree on Steve Jobs, and love how he stayed focused on his core brilliance to the end, not on "woe is me, I have terminal cancer, I shouldn't have smoked" or whatever. He's an inspiration, and a testament to realizing that the past is done, and focusing on the future, and leaving some kind of legacy when we're gone, a legacy of brilliance, innovation, love and positive thinking.
While it's important to vent and stew in misery sometimes, instead of spending all your time here, in a support group, befriend people at work and talk excitedly about some new technology, cause or something you're passionate about! It helps!
Sometimes depression is simply a lack of new ideas or something positive to say.
