Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Sorry you are going through a rough time. Has your Dr mentioned TMS treatment? It's been around for over 10 years and has had great success. I became treatment resistant to meds and a couple months ago my therapist suggested TMS(trans cranial magnetic stimulation). I am presently on hiatus from it due to being ill, but so far it has helped me. Some people go into a remission from depression, some need an occasional 'tune-up'(for lack of a better term). For some it doesn't work, but for many there are improvements. It can be big commitment time-wise, since initial protocol is 5x/week for 6 weeks. I was unable to tolerate 5x/wk due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and when I go it's 3x/week. It will extend the number of weeks for me, but that's what works best for me. You can google it for more information, or if you just want to ask me more questions, feel free. There are no lasting side effects except for maybe some scalp discomfort during treatment which goes away quickly. You can look up sites near you that have it, some psychiatrist's offices have it. Depending on your insurance, you may have copay, which in some case can be costly. I have Medicare and don't have a copay at all.
It is definitely something to consider. I never tried ECT, nor would I, due to the strong possibility of memory issues. Had a friend who had issues afterwards.
Talk to your Dr and see what's best for you. Hope you have success with whatever you choose to do.
Sending hugs and support!!!!
