Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hi guys
I just joined the support group. Was diagnosed with MDD 6 years ago, and avout half a year ago I started feeling like myself again, yay me! Probably the biggest victory of my life. I still struggle but things are better.
What I wanted to ask you is whether you have any experience of going back to work after depression, preferably a job you had to leave because of the depression.
My situation is I landed pretty much my dream job last summer. I was hired for two summers and was going to study during the winter. The thing is, I was completely useless last summer because of the depression. I'm much better now, but I feel so ashamed of how badly I did last summer that it hurts inside and makes me anxious and tired and I feel the depression coming back. So yeah, has anyone beem struggling with shame over a work badly done when you go back to work?

not wanting to go too deeply into it: you're only as bad/good as your last performance. Just get back in there, be really reliable and steady, and after a couple of months it will be like nothing ever happened.
You can do it. If you can live down the feelings of embarrassment they will disappear very quickly and everyone will just move on. :)
I went back to work and found it so tiring that it affected my performance. So I agreed with management to do a shorter day and things then turned round.
Also, they hired you back so you might not be as useless as you thought
