This may seem out of left-field, but I feel this is the best category to post to. I'm seeking people here that have a full set of dentures.

I have recently found out that I will require a full set of dentures. I am only 33. My oral health has (obviously) seriously declined due to years of neglect (depression) as well as side effects of the medications I have to take for Addison's disease, and its subsequent complications.

The full set of dentures I am to receive are being donated through a state program for people on disability, such as myself, so there is no cost for me. The issue is that I will have to live without teeth for eight months so that my gums heal completely. Since this service is free I don't have the luxury of having an interim set of dentures.

I am very, very scared. I'm sure I can manage to find foods that I will be able to eat without the "need" for teeth. But eight weeks is a long time. I'm terrified that I will attract attention when I go to the grocery store or to the pharmacy. I am disabled, so I really only go out for doctor's appointments, groceries or the pharmacy. How will I look? What will I sound like? I'm hoping I can get some advice on how to deal with this. I can't express enough how scared I am.

Also, I am frightened about how I will adapt to the dentures. When I was a kid I had to wear a retainer, and I constantly gagged on it. Will I have the same issue with dentures? Or will it just feel like I have a full set of teeth.

Any advice, suggestions, input,... anything is very much appreciated.
