Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
We just learned yesterday of a friend's suicide. It is devastating for the family, his brother and nephew. I write so that people can consider their impact on and love of others.
Is the glass half full,consider the gentleman who committed suicide. He had multiple sclerosis which was not disabling, but limiting. He was undergoing a second divorce which was becoming increasingly nasty and he lost some legal battles. He was having some financial problems. That said, consider the other side.
He had a beautiful house near Laguna Beach. If he was having financial problems, he still was earning more and worth more than probably 90% of the country. He was renovating another valuable house.
He had a lovely daughter and a close family. A nephew, a close friend, had gone to his uncle's house and gotten a job and saw California during the summer. His brother, also ill would have benefited from love and support. Today he leaves such sadness, which will never change, a gap for all who loved him.
We do not blame him; we wished he could have developed more strength to address the issues he faced, and not to worry about business or personal failures, but to consider what he had- a beautiful daughter who was a wonderful person partially because of her father, a brother who needed support and was happy to provide help, a hope and finances, and other things that our great country provided.

four years later, none of that is in my life. Time does perfect work, but you gotta LET it.

I have been to a few suicide funerals. Very tough on the families and the loved ones.
At times for those of us with depression it sounds like the answer to end the pain. But it is a lie from our skewed thinking. I wish he could've found the help and been able to fight back.
