I've been thru this hell having a multi cat household..rrrrr frustrating. Keep vacuuming. Then throw bags away when kinda full. I swear by advantage. Good luck. Yeah, bombing not necessary anymore thank god

Oh I feel your pain! We just finally won the battle ourselves in the last month after nine months of vaccuuming/sprays and treatments. Advantage II was the saving grace along with a heavy duty spray from the pet shop that I sprayed twice as much as it claimed just in case. I was the only one in the house that was bothered by them other than the cat and I still have scars from the scratching. Good Luck! Hopefully it'll be over for you too now.

We had this issue.. We used stuff that you could sprinkle on your carpets.. We sprinkled it everywhere we could think of! Under couch cushions by the cracks between the flooring and wall, ect! We put the animals in the basement with food and water plus litter pan. It worked wonders!! I think we has to do it twice before we saw none of them! All we had to do then is vaccum it up.

I never knew until last year how hard that was. Need to invest in the spray that kills everything for 6months and thing for back of cats neck, Took months but it did work in the end. I've had cats for ever and never had it that bad, I wasted money on quite a few repellants before I forked out for the vet stuff which you can buy cheaper in pet shops(both spray and ointment). It does take a few months but it will go

Whenever we've had flea problems we treat the yard, the house and the dog. We use the bombs in our house and have never had any problem with allergic reactions, etc. And actually, they're easy to use.

We open all our closet doors and all the cabinets in the house. We pull the pillows and cushions off the sofas (so the bomb spray can get to all sides of the pillow and cushions).

We remove all the blankets and sheet from the beds and put the linens outside. Later, after we come back to the house after the bombs have gone off, we bring the linens in, but only enough at one time to fit into the washer. We wash the bed linens in HOT water.

Then we set off the amount of bombs recommended on the can, usually four of them in our house. We set each can on some newspaper so in case the can sputters, the floor won't get real wet.

We set off the cans, and we leave for two or three hours. We find this easy to do. But then we only have one dog so it's easy to take her with us in the car.

This is so worth doing. We really find it very easy. And you don't have to be gone from your house for long at all, two or three hours.

Be sure to get the kind of bomb that has extended release.

I hope this info is helpful. I am allergic to flea bites, so we HAVE to get rid of them immediately. The bombs always work well.

I hope you get rid of the fleas. I had a long haired cat once that brought them home and they ate one of my toddlers alive. I sprayed that house to death, and the cat never came in the house again. He did find another owner, so I didn't feel too bad. Besides, it was warm there, so he didn't suffer.

I finally found one good thing today in your post about living in the frozen north. The fleas can't survive here. Somehow, despite how horrid the fleas are, I think I would rather chance them and have decent weather.

Have not had a flea in years. WE use advantage on a regular basis; never miss the dose. We save up to be sure we can buy the next dose. Two cats and a doggie, and all of us are itch free.

Hang in there! Even if you're using the best flea stuff, it still can take 2-3 months for fleas to be all gone. Make sure the items you are using are killing the eggs and larva, that is the most important thing I tell people who come into the vet clinic I work at. Birds are really sensitive to chemicals in flea bombs so I understand your hestitation in using them. When I had a flea problem over the summer, I used a combination of vectra/revolution for both my dogs and my cats (alternating the brands every 30 days so the fleas don't build up resistences) I also washed bedding frequently and used seargents gold products for flea bath and carpet stuff. The seargents gold products are really afforadable, the smell great and really work, I can't say enough nice things about them! I hope your new spray works too, I hope some of my tips might help you :)

I forgot to add there are also supplements that make you and your cats taste nasty to fleas if you wanted to look at that. I actually ended up doing that for one of my dogs when he had a bad reaction to one of the products. (He had hives so bad and had open sores from scratching.) Depending on your area you can also use an outdoor spray in your yard to cut down on fleas outside

I am the "parent" of multicats household and doggies; treat the entire lawn with insect repellant from Lowes that comes in the bags and rotate between the "red" bag (can't remember the name, but Lowe's employees will know) and Spectricide that comes in a bag. I also use Revolution on the most allergic affected cats and Frontline spray on the ones not affected as much. The lawn treatment is very effective. As for the inside, vacuming and using a desk light over a medium size water bowl containing dish liquid over night will draw the fleas in the home to the light and into the sudsey water they will go, unable to get out. Any antihistimine will help you with the flea allergy bites, (you know which you can safely take, I'm sure, or ask your doctor or pharmacist for suggestion). I also use antihistimines, the generic brand, on one of my dogs that has horrible flea allergies. Good Luck. Hope this helps. I hate fleas. Don't have any trouble with ticks.

Thanks everyone for the advice and support, I am so very glad the Advantage II is working on the cats. I know how miserable the itching has made me...I could only imagine how uncomfortable the cats were.


The doc ordered a prescription antihistamine for me. I took it once yesterday....it made me toooooo tired. It's ok when I'm home, but I I can't feel that way at work. I will get rid of the little buggers....LOL
