Unfortunately, I think they can. Really it greatly depends on the laws of where you live. In some places you can be let go with a far less explanation.

I think they can, unless you have reason to believe you were let go because of discrimination. But asking them for a reason is totally appropriate, I would have done the same.

I'm sorry that happend to you. I've had temp jobs give less explination. One time I was let go because I wasn't qualifide for the area I was placed in and despite asking to be moved to a place in the company that I was prety sure I'd be productive and a generally positive asset my boss insisted I stay sufficed to say about 3 days later the temp company only said I'd been fired. It hurt but I moved on.

The contract I had with my last company when I hired on basically said they had the right to terminate me at any time for any reason. They didn't and I worked there for 14 years, but that was the deal. It's basically a way to say they can get rid of you for any reason at all, which may or may not have to do with your performance. If there's something else going on (like discrimination) the burden of proof is on you. This is one of the reasons employees have no loyalty to their companies anymore, in my opinion. That is all wrong Friend. Fire you via Email. I would of had to taken a copy to the bosses boss. Of course, I have not worked in about 7 years so don't take my advice. I tend to tell bosses to Fuck Off and shit that gets me into trouble. I do not handle aggression very well.I am very sorry about your job. There is one out there, keep looking..

Friend 19, let me first say this. If that's the way they handle their employees then they aren't a reputable company. Using an insincere way to relieve you leads me to believe they have a high turnover rate.

To respond to your question, I believe they have a responsibility, depending on how long you have been with them, to correspond in a different manner than e-mail. Is there an employment contract which has terms covering or relating to discipline and termination? If so, its terms or provisions will govern and must be honored by both parties.
If there is no contract, then an employee is an employee at will." As the term implies, an employee at will works at the willor whim, if you preferof the employer. An employer may fire an employee at will at any time, for any reason, without notice.

Also, while it is certainly not customary to not fire someone over email, there is no law or rule against it. An employer may fire someone via phone, by email, text message, Fed Ex, or regular mail.

Unfortunately, mek is right. However, you may find a loop hole if you believe there may be some type of discrimination.

This was a job where I worked from home OICU, and while I would love to show you the contract, or look over it again myself...Because they already deleted my account, I can no longer access it. They deleted my account actually 1 hour before they even sent me the email >:( ...And they are still sending me training emails even though they fired me... Oh and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to receive my money I earned for this month.
