Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If someone tells you that they have a pet...or sometimes even that they HAD a pet...you don't think automatically, oh, best not talk about them much, who knows if they are still alive...
You have apologised, which is nice because you may have upset the person, but in no way is that YOUR fault! Do not blame yourself, or you will end up causing more upset to yourself than your comment probably caused to your friend...as they must have had other people asking about the dog and had to say the same thing to them.
Facebook is a strange thing. Your friend has probably just been too busy to write a reply. Don't take that personally.
I hope that you feel better. I'm sure that your friend had many years of wonderful companionship with their pet, and bringing him up in conversation, one day will end up being a happy thing for them rather than a sad one.

But you didn't know, you knew he loved his dog and you were saying something nice - you had the best intentions and didn't do anything wrong.
Prehaps just do something nice for him to say sorry, it wasn't your fault but would be a nice gesture?
Anyway, hugs, my foot seems lodged in my mouth always so you have my sympathys it's a horrible feeling.
Loads of hugs for you.
Take care and try to have a good day
I do feel like I suffer from an acute state of foot in mouth syndrome.
In his avatar, he is holding Guinness, so my mind just immediately went to that dog when it came to conversation.
Little did I know that he posted that pic in mourning.
Ugh.
