Hi next weekend my great niece is graduating from highschool.I was looking forward to going.She had sent me a invite and picture of her.I have taken care of this young lady sense she was 2 months old.So I am very proud of her.But I guess she doesn't feel the same about me.Last weekend she was suppose to come up to visit me.Even asked for my phone number and address.I was so looking forward to her visit.Yea I know I sound pretty pathedic dont I? She never called or showed up.I caught her on facebook and said after me waiting most of the afternoon she had other plans maybe she could come another time.And I know things come up and there are people who have alot more going on in their lives then waiting for someone to visit.But it hurt me and I lashed out and typed not to worry with coming I knew she didnt have time and if she wanted to just send me a invite.So she did and then she let me know I would not be able to cometo her graduation cause you have to have a ticket to attend and she did not have one for me or her great grandma.So I feel she must not of cared enough to want me or her Great Grandma there or she would of got more tickets for us to go.Maybe I am being dumb but when I speak up and say how I feel I make everyone mad at me or if I ask for a little respect my family acts like I asking for the moon.It just makes me sad.Jerrie

I am so sorry for you.

I think it was very immature of her to treat you that way, but the kind of immaturity that goes with her age. Hopefully as people leave their teen years they see the hurtfulness of this behavior.

At this point she has dug herself into her position and it is unlikely that she will apologize to you. Perhaps you can talk to her parents (well, the one you are related to by blood) and have them explain to your great niece just how wrong she was.

You may not 'fix' this in time to attend her graduation, but it may bump her into some better behavior for her future.

Thanks for your response.She did aplogize and just tried to make it like it was not a big deal.I agree I should'nt expect to much from some one her age as well.I know she basically does not have much respect for anyone right now it seems.I am hoping that will change especially with the field of work she is going into.

I agree with ThePepperMan. The only other thing I wanted to throw in, as a recent-ish grad is that schools have become very strict about the number of tickets issued to each student for graduation, and the student is often not able to get any more no matter what (sonetimes they only give 2 or 4 per student). I would guess that this is why there aren't enough tuckets for the whole family. I don't want to speak for her, but I know you feel hurt, and she just may not be able to do anything in this situation. ((Hugs))

Keep in mind that this young girl is graduating. That doesn't make her mature. She was very disrespectful to you, which you did not deserve. Someday she is going to realize how cruel her actions were and apparently, still are. I hope you will not feel that this is a reflection on you, because it's a large reflection on who she is. I have been treated like that from a family member too years ago and I know it hurts. But, I know in my heart, that I did nothing wrong, but everything right, including taking care of the person when they were very small. Some people just don't have hearts as big as yours. Hugs GB

I don't even think it would of bothered me as much if I had known ahead of time that the raduation requires you having a ticket.To be honest I am 43 yrs old and had never heard you needed a ticket to go to a small graduation where everybody knows everyone.I have been to two very large highschool graduations and would figure in such a large graduation there might be a ticket needed.I think the worse for me is her timing which with young adults is the biggest thins I have realized they want and ask you allmost a year ahead to come to their graduation then at the last min say oh you would of needed a ticket and I dont have one for you.Thank for the respoinse sometimes I do think I expect to much out of my family.And when they do not react the way I wish they would I get upset.Hugsss.Jerrie
