Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
We can lie there all night with racing thoughts and no sleep, and then get up and go to work the next day, and it doesn't do us any harm. And most people in history have done just that. Only in this last generation has the idea been to reach out to someone else when you're in this state. Mostly, history has left us alone with it.
We're all on a journey, and those thoughts, and learning how to think, how to master our minds and break them in like horses to help us travel is part of that journey. Learning how you think is part of your development. Lying there, watching those racing thoughts, learning about them, asking them questions- how rational are they? How likely? How reasonable? Are they moot? Do the outcomes of these thoughts make any difference to what you have to do tomorrow?
Those questions are part of growing up. Lying there, obsessively obsessing, and coming to the logical conclusion of that process is a part of growing up.
Don't halt your own growth. Uncover it. Allow it. Go through it. There's no short cut that will lead you to any destination whatsoever.
Any shortcut will keep you locked into where you are right now, for life. I don't recommend that.
