Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am very sorry for what you are going through. There is not enough in what you told us other than your job and not liking yourself. If there are churches nearby, I suggest that you talk to a pastor or if they have some kind of ministry to help people like you, please go and seek advice or any other help. There must be something else that triggered why you don’t like yourself, sometimes its things you did in the past and sometimes its not coming up to your high self expectations. But this is already happening before you lost your job.
I know people who valued themselves when they were younger through what they earn, what they can do, their looks and place in society. They get depressed as they got older because not only do they have less of all these. But that is not true. Each one has a value and there is hope, a lot of hope. The people I am talking about were rejuvenated when they found a strong faith and learned that they have value no matter how old they are and that they are very much loved and there is life hereafter with very good things to look forward to. Consider going to a pastor and ask about these.
If I were you, I would also get help from your grown kids and as you described them they are nice people and don’t feel ashamed to ask for help because you are part of who they are now and many people regret it later when they did not help their parents or even worse when they had no idea that their parent needs help and they were not even given a chance to show their gratitude.
So, Cheese, please be a bit more confident and get help from your kids, churches or any government agency. I hope you get better.
