Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It is a good thing you've reached out here. Hoping you find connection and support. For me feeling connected even a little bit can fill some of the void inside of me. Take care - you are not alone
I feel disconnected from almost everyone I love and I've lost almost everyone I had. I've been hoping and praying that they find love and compassion and that they understand, somewhere, how much I'll miss them.
I hope you can get back in touch with your feelings. I think talking about it, or writing about it, or doing something creative helps. Even taking a walk and letting yourself be awed by the sky for a while helps.
Try not to stew in nothingness.
You can PM me, too, if you want. I'm always willing to talk stuff out with people. Please stay strong.
Thank you for being brave enough to open up and share where you’re at right now. Depression is draining. So many of us can relate to feelings of emptiness, and it is scary. I know that you have experienced some painful situations.
I am wondering if you have considered talking to your doctor. It is possible that your depression could be due to some kind of chemical imbalance. That happened with me, and when I finally did go to the doctor, he was able to put me on a medicine that changed everything for me. It might be worth checking out.
I am also wondering if you have considered talking to a counselor or maybe a pastor. In many churches the counseling is completely free. I think if you could reach out to a counselor or a minister, they might be able to give you some extra understanding of what is going on and help you get through it.
One thing that really helps me to get insight and perspective is to write. Journaling can give you new insights into yourself and your pain. It sounds like you are confused right now. For me, writing my thoughts and feelings out gives me clarity, and it is often very cathartic for me. I’m wondering if the same might be true for you. Or, if writing isn’t your thing, some people paint and they find a way to express themselves and release their pent-up feelings through that.
Here is what I do know, your life is not a mistake: you are here for a purpose, and your life has so much value. You have gifts and talents, and they are yours for a reason: to enable you to make a difference. I believe there is a plan and purpose, and that everything we go through has meaning. I have been through depression, I’ve been loss of a relationship through divorce, I’ve been through loss of my parents, I’ve been through emotional and sexual abuse, and what I’ve discovered is that I have been given opportunities to use those experiences to help others along the way. Would I have ever deliberately chosen to go through any of those things? No, but the way I make meaning from them is by using them to reach out and help others going through similar things.
I can’t help but wonder if you may be able to understand other’s pain and emptiness on a deep level because you have been there. You know what it’s like. I am wondering if you can use the hard times in your life to reach out to others and speak to them on such a much deeper level because you’ve been there. You know what it’s like. We can’t unwish the pain from our past, but we can give it purpose and meaning when we use it to reach out and help others traveling a similar road.
I don’t know what you have been through, but I do know you matter. I hope you’ll consider reaching out to a doctor and to a counselor or a pastor. There are people who care and there are people who can help you. You do not have to go through this alone.
I am praying for you, precious friend.
