Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Yes, I was diagnosed with the same thing. A low level of depression - not enough to keep me bed ridden or feeling hopeless but a general sadness.
For me, I was prescribed Zoloft and Seroquel (both at low doses). The Seroquel helped with sleep but the morning after was filled with loopiness. I can recall being out after Christmas and feeling very spacey. I stopped taking the Seroquel as it simply didn't work for me. I take Zoloft still.
The other thing that works for me is to not drink as much. I know, I know how alcohol is tied to depression and it's effect on sleep. I haven't always towed the line on this one but continue to work on it .
Which also brings me to the fact that we are what we put in our bodies and what we do. For example, I started exercising on a more regular basis - I run about 4-5 times a week. I've also taken some natural supplements (with the help of a very smart healer). No, not a quack and I know my $250 a 1/2 hour psychiatrist would not know what to "prescribe" here nor would my MD.
It's rare but maybe you can find a support group. There's one near where I live for people with depression. It's run by a psychiatrist and it's free!
Back in December I would be googling Seroquel and dysthymia and now I don't do either. Do I feel "perfect" today? No. But, as I type this, I know I'm in a way better place from where I was in December.
Hang in there!
Right now I don't have a counselor or anything and really feel like I need someone to bounce things off of. It's a beautiful day outside and I'm sitting alone in my dark bedroom... just don't care... Inner voice is so so so negative and hopeless.
