Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi,
It's been a long time since I've been on. The title is my life, IDK how to feel anymore. My siblings and I have been taking care of our elderly mom who has dementia. It's heartbreaking. My boyfriend is having a lot of health problems and I am trying to be supportive but it's hard. The 2 ppl I love most in the world are suffering and there is nothing I can do. I am defenitely sinking into a dark hole. I savor the short alone time I have but I love these 2 ppl but in the same breath I can't take it anymore. I am lost in all the care taking. Nobody is concerned about me and my mental health.
I feel bad that all I want is to be free from it. I also feel bad that all I want is to be alone.
Any kind words will be appreciated.
Thanks, Scorpio

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

Sorry about your friend
Try your best to take some relax time and fun time, just for yourself. Take breaks whenever you can.
If you have a prescription depression medication, why not give it a try? I understand about being scared of side effects, but the medication was prescribed especially for you, and what if it really really worked and you felt great?? Give it a try. I don't think you will have any side effects from it. I worry about that, also, so I do understand. But most side effects are minor, and rarely happen.
Agree with the posts above. Talking to a therapist, or a good friend, really helps lessen the stress.
You can do this. Take care of you, first and foremost.
People who care for others often do so from a sense of obligation and caring when others can't or won't. They are happy to have you bear the burden. I don't know if that is your circumstance but you did indicate there is nothing you can do...in the case of their suffering. If that is so, then you would seem to be weighing yourself down with matters you cannot control yet internalize them as some sort of failure on your part that incresingly adds stress. GirlinCali is right I think, seeing a therapist to help you set limits in what you do and your mental approach to this will preserve your own sanity and health in matters you cannot solve on your own. Feeling impotent to change adversity is natural. I suspect I would be right there with you in circumstances regarding those I love. Their suffering is intolerable to our own sense of being alive and happy. We are scarred, but finding a way through it helps us find the part of us that we are entitled to keep for ourselves.
