Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You could be in the best envirement,..have lots of money,..and seemingly have everything going for you,.but when depression strikes,..watch out,..none of that matters,..because it is an illness,....Please keep this in mind,...
I hope you can find some treatments that may help you get by,...are you taking meds?,..are you in therapy?
I also am not on meds and don't ever want to be, which can be very very challenging at times. Some of the methods I use to cope are writing, making positive lists (things/people I like..), and thought control. I write a lot of poetry and a lot of times I just rant on and on on paper or on my computer to get things off my chest. It helps a tonne. When it comes to thought control, I try to remain vigilant and recognize negative thoughts that are not grounded in a concrete situation and consciously replace them with more positive ones. It's a very difficult technique to develop, but once you've become somewhat skilled in it, it makes a world of difference. For example, if I am feeling awful, but I've just experienced a break up, I allow myself to feel that way because it is grounded in a concrete situation and feeling sad is part of the healing process. But if I find myself feeling awful and it is not grounded in something concrete, or the best I can come up with to explain it is a bunch of little shit that individually would not cause me to feel that way, I know that these thoughts are unhealthy and unnecessary so I tell myself that, push the thoughts out, and replace them with more positive ones. I remind myself of all the reasons I have NOT to be depressed. It really does help. Sometimes we are down so deep that nothing can help and we just have to bide our time and let it pass, and that sucks. But most of the time there is something we can do to pull ourselves out, or at the very least to make it more bearable.
Most important is to always keep in mind that depression IS an illness - it is something you struggle with, it is not who you are. It is something that you can't control, but you can control yourself. You can control how you deal with it.
If you need a friend, or advice, or any help at all feel free to ask me. I'm here for you :)
Sometimes depression lifts on it's own,..not often,..but it does happen,..I still advocate getting help,..maybe when you start school again,..you can talk to your guidance councelor.
I hope everything works out for you,...I would like to see you happy,.and content with life,...Just remember,...stress is part of life,...it's how you handle it that makes the difference,....

I know it feels like you are going to feel this way forever. But you won't and that is a promise that I feel perfectly comfortable making.
We are all unique and different techniques work better for different people. If therapy really is not an option for you I would sugget picking up a few good books about coping mechanisms for depression. I would also suggest reading "The Secret." I personally have not gotten around to reading it yet, but my cousin and a number of other people in my life have read it and they all say it is absolutely life changing. It's all about the power of positive energy. Sounds like it might be just what you need. :)
