I was on this last year. It was a good stabilizer and helped for awhile, but did not stay on it long term. I also had to get regular blood work. You might not find it under this name it's also called valproic acid and epival. I don't remember the side effects but I remember tolerating it quite well.

I love this medication. Makes me feel normal and my fun happy self. antidepressants make me manic.

but it always causes my heart to race severely fast! so i always have to go off it.

found out recently I have supraventricular heart murmur and meds affect it

Wow. Thank you both for your replies. I have had one or two small similar situations where I have had a heart race incident, but it went away. This was the first few days of being on the medication. Does this persist throughout?

I do not know if it continues because the first time I went on it I felt wonderful for about 2 weeks and then the heart thing happened and I called up the doctor and was told to go off of it. about 5 years later i tried it again but mixed with Rimeron and my heart raced immediately. I called the doctor and was told to go off it and this was a different doctor.

I wouldn't worry if i were you if it is just some palpitations. it may level out and your body may adjust. But if you get a hard very fast racing heart then check it out with your doctor and tell him. if you can not do that then try lowering your dose. I often will start out on a lower dose then my doctor suggested when trying meds. Then the side effects are not as bad.

all anti seizure drugs make me feel wonderful but have some side effect that i can not tolerate.

I loved Topomax....and then went blind temperarly by a white light.
