Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I used to think that I was abnormal or just lazy. Like I couldn’t do things seemingly easy to everyone else or control the way I am. But like anona123 said, once I got the help I needed and started the right meds, life became a lot more manageable. I now feel a sense of accomplishment and reward myself or feel proud of getting the little things right or even just getting them done. Sometimes I will tell myself out loud, which has kind of started making everyone at work join in with encouragement and laughter. But in the best possible way.
This way I have gotten some confidence back and I feel a lot calmer with less anxiety. I have realized it is okay to not do everything right this minute, but make a list and do things in the order that works for you. For me some days that means I have the capacity to only tick easy things off the list, and on the good days I try and tackle the bigger things. It doesn’t mean that I don’t care about some things more than others, just that I love myself enough to put myself and my well-being first not punish myself if I don’t get everything right all the time.
I think sometimes we get to that place where things escalate and they become so overwhelming you feel out of control. And then you just shut down, because what is the point of you can’t do anything right anyway? Why even try if you just screw it up or are to lazy to see it through? These are all negative thoughts and feelings that just make everything worse. You need to actively try to counteract this kind of thinking, by either breaking things down into small steps that you can accomplish easier and feel good about or by allowing yourself to be okay with not always being able to do everything perfect all the time.
Maybe you also feel the fear of failure or not being good enough? Again, these are things you can learn to identify and deal with separately.
Whatever the reason for feeling this way, you need to slow down and not overwhelm yourself or be too hard on yourself. And you should probably find someone professional to talk to about treatment to help you cope.
