Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Mine supported me really well when I was suicidal. She took care of everything, even ensuring that I wasn't spending time alone. Have you contacted a help line?
I really can't believe your psychiatrist said that! what does he think his job is? You need someone who will support you no matter what place you're in!
Where I live there are not a lot of resources and not a lot of psychiatrists. We don't have a crisis line or anything like that. I will talk to my psychiatrist tomorrow and tell him to try to reach out to me a little, if he couldn't (and I think that he made it clear that he couldn't) it will be better to shop around for another psychiatrist. I think I will stay with him for the meds but I will try a psychologist. He told me about one a while back. Maybe I will pay her a visit.
Thanks for your support.
In my opinion there is nothing to be done with a person who is convinced suicide is a viable option. The key words here are 'kept on". At some point, the 'patient' has to dismiss the idea or continuation is a waste of time. A doctor has the right to discontinue treatment if it is not effective.
Doctors (along with most people) help people live. They cannot do anything with someone who doesn't want to. It is not even open for discussion.
If someone came to me (whether I was a doctor or not), and said they wanted to die, my response would be "I cannot help you."
As long as you see it that way, there is only one person I can think of .. and he would probably not help you either because he only works with people with terminal illnesses, except now, he doesn't even do that .. he is paroled from prison.
So, my advice to you is dump the idea .. ENTIRELY.
