Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If your medication is not working at all, your dr. should be made aware of this and try different meds.
I do not know why you didn't want to go to the rest house, but you may want to reconsider. It is possible that being with your family will influence your thinking at this time. And it sounds anyway like being in a safe, neutral setting would be helpful for you. You need to know what you really want, not what your family wants for you.
Were you depressed before you got married/met your husband? If yes, it could be that at least some of your negative feelings toward him are depression related. When I am extremely depressed, I don't like anyone much, and can be critical even of people who are trying to help. On the other hand, if he has habits that truly annoy you apart from the depression, this should be communicated. Maybe he simply does not know how to reach you when you are unhappy. So again, joint therapy.
I hope you have a good day and that all of this works out for you.
I am doing a self help book that states all depression stems from some value in your mind not being met. Maybe your marriage is causing some of your depression. Maybe not. You will have to figure that out.
Journaling is what really got me to understand my feelings and thoughts when I began questioning my own marriage this year. I had not questioned it before because when I am in depressive states, I just don't feel much of anything. I thought I was just older and that it was normal. It wasn't. I just now am figuring so much of this out.
I reflected on my emotions from childhood, adolescence, and since I have been with my husband in my journal. When I was completely honest, my feelings were clear. Not easy to handle, but clear.
If you can get to a quiet place and really just let yourself be completely honest on paper, you will probably know what you want. If you are not into writing, therapists can talk you through the same things.
I hope that you can figure it all out sweetie. Even good marriages are extremely hard.
Mginmn, I have been battling severe depression and anxiety for years and that is part of the reason I am so hesitant to trust my feelings. I refused to go to the rest house because I have already been once in the last year, and it was very, very hard on my marriage. The conflict it created within my marriage actually prevented it from being as helpful as it should have been.
Crispymomma, I have been using the journal on this website almost daily and it is helping.
My husband and I are both in our twenties. We've been married almost 3 years. I am so hesitant to try and determine how much of my negative feelings are from my disorder and how much are from this marriage. This seems like such a short time to develop feelings so strong and negative about someone you love and the future you planned with them!
I'm feeling so depressed and heart-broken. Thank you all for the advice you have given me so far.
