Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm anxious every single day of my life, and I often have Panic Attacks. Anxiety, for me, is a constant nagging feeling of dread. I generally feel most of the physical effects in my stomach and chest. I'll breath more shallow and quickly, and I'll feel like my heart is racing and my stomach is in knots. Sometimes, I'll feel dizzy and light-headed. When I'm anxious, it's hard to focus on anything else. The more I pay attention to my symptoms of Anxiety, the worse they get. Sometimes, my brain misinterprets my symptoms as life threatening, such as a heart attack. Then, I will almost always have a Panic Attack. I'll get really hot, my heart will race, my throat will feel dry, and my tongue will feel swollen. My chest will feel like it's being crushed by a semi truck, and I'll start to hyperventilate. I often shake and feel numbness in my arms and my legs as well. At my worst, I've actually lost control of my bladder. This is all, of course, in my head. I've called 911 before thinking I was really dying, only to be shown by the paramedics that my heart rate was completely normal. It's scary what the mind can make you feel.
There are so many ways to manage feelings of Depression and Anxiety though. I get scared too. Unfortunately, that comes with the territory. It helps me to completely remove myself from wherever I am and from whatever I'm doing and to completely immerse myself in something positive to force a disruption of my negative thinking. Talking about it really helps me, too. You're going to get through this.
