I believe we do live in a depression culture. In fact according to some new study, the bigger states are the most depressing places to live here in the USA.

I wouldn't be suprised if it was worse here in the states. There is so much pressure to succeed, have a bunch of friends, have the big house, look beautiful. All the commercial's on TV, what do you see? A bunch of friends hanging out have beer, couples on the beach looking beautiful and a hugh house behind them. Most of the time even divorced women with children can afford to live in nice houses and seem to have everything. When we don't measure up, we feel we are failing and not good enough, beautiful enough, or whatever.
But you know what? I wouldn't want to live in any other country.

Yeah this culture/country can get depressing as can I assume most others. maybe here we have an open policy about illness but not about emotions, depending on your heritage or background. Maybe we have more time to consider our despair, maybe we are finding out that modern science/technology can go only so deeply into our healing. In my experience, I find the 'individualism' and self-promotion of this country dreadful..(US, I mean) and I don't want to pretend I'm, per se, a success or what. I think we live in a bubble of functionality and who knows..there are all types here..all types of situations too..lack of close knit families, use of pharmaceuticals as a mask, money is king mentality..where ever you are..I hope you find something that stimulates you and heals you..Cheers!

That is food for thought! I can remember when you knew your neighbors and helped each other out in a pinch. I think to many people have to work to hard to just make it here. The wife going to work use to be an option, now it is mandatory just to make it. Makes for a depressing society, no one has time to make friends anymore.

Just a question? Do you know your neighbors name? I don't. They work to much to give me a chance to know them.

I think you're right, but it is good to focus on what you can do to change the situation so that those thoughts don't overwhelm you. A big part of our depressing culture/depression in general is the social isolation that is causes/is caused by. I think one great cure is to do nice things for other people so that they can become more loving and fulfilled people that they wouldn't become otherwise. That is part of why I am here on DS actually, when I read a lot of people's posts it actually reminds me how far I've come compared to how I felt years ago and it is very satisfying to me to pay it forward and help others rather than focusing in on the things about my own life/the world that feel overwhelming.
